LVT is a luxury vinyl tile, and these fashionable floors check all the boxes when it comes to performance.
What is it?
LVT is a remarkable mimic of tile and when you walk into a flooring store you will see a virtually limitless number of colors, patterns, and designs.
It can be cut into tile-sized pieces, and some even use grout to give it even more realism.
Wood-looks are popular right now, so you can get a “tile” that simulates this, as well as marble or any other stone.
They can be embossed which adds texturing such as wire-brushing, to give it additional depth and dimension.
Waterproof floors are LVT but with different cores
This may seem a little confusing since all LVT is waterproof.
When it comes with a different core, such as the WPC (wood plastic composite) or SPC (stone plastic composite) there is an even higher level of protection. The cores will not peel or ripple no matter how much water they are exposed to nor for how long.
It is not uncommon for a flood to occur when no one is home to attend to it right away.
The best explanation is by example: Someone we know has a summer house in another state and, during that time, there was a flood in the permanent one. Someone would come in every few days to check on it but, by the time he arrived, the floor probably had been flooded for at least 48 hours.
We also create a lot of water and moisture right in our own homes: appliance floods, toilet leaks, burst pipes, roofs, chimneys, and air conditioners, to name just some.
LVT can also be found in any store that specializes in waterproof flooring.
Other benefits include
●Durability. This is a layered product, with the top being a clear melamine sheet that protects against scuffs and scratches. Stains sit at the top so they wipe off easily.
●Easy care. Just sweep or vacuum. For more thorough cleaning, mop with a manufacturer-approved cleaner.
●Simple installation. With few exceptions, it floats over existing subfloors and the pieces click together. This is DIY-friendly if you're so inclined.
